Mosaici Donà Murano is a prestigious artisanal company specializing in the production of enamels, gold leaf, transparent glass, and filato for artistic mosaics. Every step of the production process, from melting to cutting, is entirely carried out by us in Murano, preserving the artisanal tradition.

The Donà family has been producing enamels and gold leaf for mosaics since 1926.

Stefano Donà, the owner, combines the family’s experience in glass production with his technical and artistic knowledge gained from his studies in chemistry and architecture.

Mosaici Donà Murano was founded in 1994 and is based in Murano at Fondamenta Venier, 38/a.

  1. 1926

    In 1926, Beniamino Donà (great-grandfather of Stefano) established the company. In his factory, his son Ugo Donà (Stefano’s grandfather) began the production of enamels and gold leaf for mosaics.This was done with the collaboration of workers from Lorenzo Radi, after having taken over the equipment.

  2. 1939

    UGO DONA' deserves recognition for his ability to make glass stable after the raw materials had changed between 1800 and 1900. In 1939, after more than 300 tests, no less than 9 small fusions per day, he obtained DIRECT RED GLASS WITH CADMIUM SULFOSELENIDE OF HOMOGENEOUS COLOR.

  3. 1950

    In 1950 Ugo Donà and his eldest son, Fernando, started a new company in which his other sons also began to work, including FRANCESCO, Stefano's father.

  4. 1978

    Nel 1978 cambia l’assetto della ditta ed i figli, tra cui Francesco, diventano soci della “UGO DONA' & FIGLI Snc.”

  5. 1990

    In 1990, after the company “Ugo Donà e Figli S.n.c.” was placed into liquidation, FRANCESCO DONA' (1940-1995) opened a new company “vetreria Francesco Donà” and taught his son Stefano the techniques and love for glass, to allow him to continue what his father Ugo began.

  6. 1994

    Mosaici Donà Murano was founded in 1994. STEFANO DONA', the owner, has been combining the Donà family's experience in the field of glass production with his technical and artistic knowledge gained from his studies in chemistry and architecture for over 30 years.

  7. 2022

    FEDERICO DONA', fifth generation, joins the family business with the intention of combining his studies in Industrial Production Engineering at the Polytechnic of Milan with the ancient glassmaking traditions of Murano.

  8. 2025

    Today MOSAICI DONA' MURANO boasts collaborations and projects all over the world, while maintaining the ancient glass production techniques, with all the phases of the process being manual.

Mosaici Donà Murano Today

Mosaici Donà Murano by Stefano Donà, to this day, uses ancient glassmaking techniques, continuing to maintain all stages of manual craftsmanship.
This applies to both the production and cutting of enamels, transparent glass, and gold leaf (no automation, no robots).
This is why only a few thousand kilograms of glass and a few hundred kilograms of gold can be produced each month.

It can be proudly stated that Mosaici Donà Murano is UNIQUE in its field.
